I went down the steps by day, and saw the hills of Montpellier. I came by the steps by accident, and sensed people traveling, by road. The image of the city did not seem to me accurate when I arrived at the top, the homeless looked like Londoners, and tourists came from below with a false sense of pride. The travel industry looked low status and the descriptions of rural and urban appeared out of place. Montpellier is an inland city. It has an old medical University and many from the wine stained countryside commute to it. I always wondered how I came here, was it the idyllic rivers and lakes, the sun baked earth or the narrow street boutiques. The theatre I never visited, not even the rural ones that once included actors like Moliere.
